Udaan life skill programme....

Dear Team,

On 6/11/2008, in the afternoon around 2:30pm I went to Round table school for an Udaan session. I have never conducted an Udaan session myself but today I did after just ½ hour of reading the Udaan book, 18th Chapter (Project of life). It was a really good topic and it was great to learn more about Future Projects ideas.

I went there at 2:30pm and found only 25 children present. Most of them were attending the Adventure camp and some children were running home. When the RTS staff rounded them up, I started the class with my introduction and what I was currently doing. Some of them said "Oh!! Very interesting" and 2 or 3 children introduced themselves as well.

After this I stared session with learning objectives. We, then, went into the following activities

a) Identifying past and current interests and achievements
b) Identifying future goals
c) Creating plans for reaching goals and d) Identifying possible ways to adjust plans due to unanticipated events (this was optional)

This was a very interesting topic to discuss with the children. We discussed the topic and I started doing the activities myself (as listed above). It was such an amazing experience I cannot find the words to express it.

During the session I got one call that I had to attend. I asked the class for permission and then attended to the call.

When I came back, I asked them what they liked in the session and what they didn't like. One boy stood up and told me that he didn't like that I attended a call during the session. I asked why he felt that way and he said that it was an interesting class and suddenly that mobile sound made me feel disturbed. I apologized to that boy. (Team don’t receive call in front of the Children during session just for information)

The next feedback I got was about the activity of identifying a future goal. One of the children mentioned that in the case of his family, they may not send him to study in the 10th STD and now his project of life was to make sure he finished the 10th STD. Now that I know what my goal is, this summer I will definitely do well and show my parents that I have the confidence and they will agree to send me to the 10th STD. I appreciated his interesting feedback.
Suddenly a girl stood up and she showed her anger face to me and to her friends. I was shocked because I didn't know what happened and she stared to cry. It was already 4.30 and so I finished the session and I told her that I would talk to her after the session was over.

After we said our goodbyes, I spoke to that girl for 30 minutes. I asked her why she got angry and why she cried. I wanted to know if it was something I said or did that hurt her. I apologized to her. She said "Pavithra aunty, just like that boy, her parents were also not going to send her to the 10th STD". She had the same problems in her house which is why she got emotional. I explained about some inspiring news to her. I told her that now that she learned that project of life she can apply that into her life. She said that within one week she was going to do that so that when I went back to the school next, she would have something to show me. I was thrilled to hear her words. It's amazing.

This is what happened in my first ever Udaan class. All I can say is "Super!"

First we should appreciate to Dream a Dream. How we are changing this community through our Programme. Once again Team says thanks to DAD and Team.

Thanking you
Dreaming Pavi

Experiance that we had

Dear Readers,

We had a Funday on 14/10/2008 with Bosco Mane. It was really wonderful experience. The Funday went really very well I am really very happy to say that. In the Morning we started on time and while traveling we sang –songs in the bus. We reached place only at around 11am. While going there, we found it a little bit difficult because we didn't know the proper address. Even Hamsa had forgotten but we finally found it. We started with laying down the ground rules each and everybody followed it. First we had morning snacks there after which we trekking. While Trekking, most of the children from Bosco were sharing there experience in adventure camps and about Nomito. Once we reached top of the hill, we had 6 activities. We all learnt how to work in Team. The children were jumping on to the rocks and they loved it. We all felt like we were in an adventure camp. There were 51 kids and 4 staff from Bosco mane, 3 staff from Dream a Dream. Dream Funday does not only mean Fun there is also something learning from it.

How Stock market works

Once upon a time, in a village, far into the jungle, Big Sam appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the jungle, and started catching them. Big Sam bought thousands at $10 each, and as the supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20 each. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch one!

Sam announced his final offer: he would now buy monkeys at $50 each! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.

In the absence of Big Sam, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that Big Sam has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 each, and when Big Sam returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each." The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys.

Then they never saw Big Sam nor his assistant again,
only monkeys and more monkeys, everywhere!

Now, you should have a better understanding of how the stock market works.

How to manage our time well

Hi Team,

How to manage our time

From this article I learned so many things and to manage our time well.

I read an article about how to manage your time well

Each one of us have 24 hour in a day to spend as we want. But we can’t get back time that is lost, it is lost for ever.

We don’t have time because we find it’s difficult to control

Through this article we can learn how to mange our times well and there are 3 steps involved in a time management.
Recording time and tasks
Analyzing and managing time and tasks and
Consolidating time to allocate to tasks.

Finally I learned being a busy does not tire us. It keeps us mentally active to become more active physically and mentally.

One minute Manager

Hi Dear team

I Read about One minute Manger this book was really good to learn lot more.

From this book I learned so many things it was interesting to read & learn.

That young man Spoken with so many mangers but he is not satisfaction. He had seen many "tough" Mangers.

But he was beginning to see the full spectrum of how people Manage People.

Finally he found one good manager after that he asked lot's questions to him and I learned lot more things from One minute manger.

He learned about one minute Goal Setting, one minute Praising, and One minute Reprimands.

One day he became One minute manger! (I was Surprised when I read this word)

He became a one minute manager not because he thought like one, or talked one, but because he behaved like one,

He set One minute Goals.
He set one minute Praising.
He set One minute Reprimands.
He asked Brief, Important questions; spoke the simple truth; laughed, worked, and enjoyed.

And, perhaps most important of all, he encouraged the people he worked with to do the same.

He had even created a pocket size "game plan" to make it easier for the people around him to become one minute managers. He had given it as a useful gift to each person who reported to him.

This all I leant even now onwards I am also going do this I hope one day I can also became one minute Manager such a wonderful book.

Finally I leaned from this how people work with other people

Start now only setting your goals team here is some more tips

One minute Goal setting is very simply:-
Agree on your goals.
See what good behavior looks like
Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of paper using less than 250 words
Read and re-read each goal, which requires only a minute or so each time you do it.
Take a minute every once in a while out of your day to look at your performance, and
See whether or not your behavior matches your goals.

The one minute Praising works well when you:
Tell people up front that you are going to let them know how they are doing.
Praise people immediately.
Tell people what they did right-be specific.
Tell people how good you fell about what they did right, and how it helps the organization and the other people who work there.
Stop for a moment of silence to let them “feel” how good you feel
Encourage them to do more of the same.
Shake hands or touch people on a way that makes it clear that you support their success in the organization.

The one minute Reprimand works well when you:
Tell people beforehand that you are going to let them know how they are doing and in no uncertain terms.

The first half of the reprimand:
Reprimand people immediately.
Tell people what they did wrong-be specific.
Tell people how you feel about what they did wrong-and in no uncertain terms.
Stop for a few seconds of uncomfortable silence to let them feel how you feel.

The second half of the reprimand:
Shake hands, or touch them in a way that lets them know you are honestly on their side.
Remind them how much value them.
Reaffirm that you think well of them but not of their performance in this situation.
Realize that when the reprimand is over, it’s over.
